Although I have no doubt that this works, but why not simply use the iscan packages that are build from source for Slackware as provided by Alienbob?

Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports can’t be detected by this program. I have tried the demo version of Vuescan and everything works immediately, so it is not a hardware problem. Having a problem logging in?
